Screen Recording Frame Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Automatic Duck, Inc. ("Automatic Duck", "we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use Screen Recording Frame for macOS ("Screen Recording Frame" or the "App"). This policy applies to Screen Recording Frame; our website is covered by our general Privacy Policy.

In short: Screen Recording Frame draws a resizable frame on your screen to guide recordings you make with other software. It does not record, capture, or read the contents of your screen. Your frame presets and settings stay on your Mac. The App sends anonymous app-usage events to TelemetryDeck so we can understand feature adoption and reliability. If you choose to join our mailing list, the email address you enter is sent to MailerLite for that purpose. If you choose to leave a tip, Apple processes the purchase. We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or track you across apps or websites.

1. Information processed and stored on your Mac

Screen Recording Frame stores only what it needs to do its job, all of it on your Mac:

The analytics SDK described below also stores its random installation identifier and session statistics in the App's preferences and keeps unsent analytics signals in the App's container until they are delivered.

The App shows the frame as an overlay window that ignores your clicks. It does not use screen recording, screen capture, camera, or microphone features, and it does not read the contents of other windows. Its global keyboard shortcut uses the standard macOS hot-key service, which does not require Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission and does not observe other keystrokes. Launch at login uses the macOS login-item service, and you can see or change it in System Settings. The App does not open, read, or write your documents or media, and it does not keep diagnostic log files.

2. Anonymous app analytics

Screen Recording Frame uses TelemetryDeck, a service provided by TelemetryDeck GmbH in Germany, to collect privacy-focused analytics. TelemetryDeck receives:

We use this information only to measure feature adoption, diagnose broad reliability problems, and improve Screen Recording Frame.

We do not send screen contents or captures; window titles or the names of other apps; the labels you give presets; filesystem paths or filenames; error messages; email addresses; purchase or transaction identifiers; or other user-provided text to TelemetryDeck.

TelemetryDeck states that it does not store IP addresses, cookies, or identifiers that can be traced back to an individual. Its SDK privacy manifest declares Product Interaction and Device ID for analytics, not linked to the user and not used for tracking. Learn more in TelemetryDeck's Privacy FAQ and Privacy Policy.

3. Optional mailing-list signup

Screen Recording Frame offers an optional form for joining the Automatic Duck mailing list, reachable from its Settings window, its menu-bar menu, and its Help menu. If you submit the form, the App sends the email address you entered, a fixed Screen Recording Frame product identifier, and the signup location within the App over HTTPS to an Automatic Duck endpoint hosted by Netlify. That endpoint passes the email address to MailerLite and adds the subscriber to our general updates group and Screen Recording Frame product group. MailerLite sends a confirmation email and manages the subscription. The App does not log or save the submitted email address, and the Automatic Duck relay does not retain it or include it in application logs. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in a mailing-list email. Dismissing the invitation or successfully submitting it stores only a Boolean setting on your Mac so the invitation is not shown again.

4. Optional tips and purchases

Screen Recording Frame may offer an optional tip jar. Tips and any other purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple handles your Apple Account and payment information under Apple's Privacy Policy. The App receives product information and verified purchase status from Apple so it can thank you and avoid asking again. Purchase and transaction identifiers are not sent to TelemetryDeck or Automatic Duck.

5. Support

Screen Recording Frame has no built-in feedback form and keeps no diagnostic logs. If you contact us by email, we use the information you provide to respond to your request and improve the App.

6. Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell or rent personal information. Information leaves the App only as described above:

We require service providers handling information for us to protect it and use it only for the service they provide.

7. Retention, deletion, and your choices

8. Security

Screen Recording Frame uses the macOS App Sandbox and has no access to your files beyond its own container. Network connections are made over HTTPS. We and our service providers use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no storage or transmission method is guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. Children's privacy

Screen Recording Frame is a utility for people who make screen recordings and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Screen Recording Frame's features or data practices change. We will post the revised policy at this URL and update the date above.
